A.M. Blood Pressure:

P.M. Blood Glucose:
    Time:  2205

Bowel Movement:  Occurred as she was getting ready to take a nap. Fair volume; somewhat soft consistency; very easy elimination; somewhat smeary clean-up.
Medication Changes:
  • Gave her 325 mg acetaminophen twice today, once at breakfast and once at dinner. She was unusually stiff and, as well, in the morning, was running (for her) a low grade fever. She also mentioned she wasn't feeling "quite 100 per".
  • Missed one of her three breathing treatments; wasn't up long enough during either "up time" to get the third one in.
  • Gave her an extra glipizide when she had dessert, as dinner + dessert involved quite a few carbs and her blood glucose was already pretty high just before dinner.
Dinner:  Toasted ham and medium sharp cheddar cheese sandwich on sourdough bread; about 1 cup of pickled (without sugar) asparagus spears; 1 slice Marie Callendars Chocolate Cream Pie.

P.M. Blood Glucose:
    Time:  2121
    Reading:  143

Bowel Movement:  Occurred as she was in the bathroom preparing for her nap. Excellent volume; good, but somewhat soft, consistency; very easy elimination; somewhat challenging clean-up.
Dinner:  Chicken Enchilada from New Frontiers with their Cilantro Sauce and Fire Roasted Chipotle Salsa from Costco; 1 piece Marie Callendar's Chocolate Cream Pie.
    Miscellaneous Notes:
  • Her bowel movements have been somewhat softer and smearier than usual; probably because of the added fluids I've been pushing, although her sweating and her couple of episodes of slight weakness in the last week seem to indicate the added fluids are necessary. I haven't been going overboard with additional fluid; experience directs me to be very cautious of that, as well. In fact, I've been so cautious that dialing her back would put her on her regular fluid intake, which was causing a problem. So, I guess, for the time being, until the mugginess abates, we'll put up with somewhat loose stools and challenging clean-ups.
  • We're finally getting her blood glucose up...a year ago I would have worried about what seem to be high numbers above. Now, though, my feeling, as is the Hospice RN's, is that, considering that Mom's blood glucose is more likely to drop below normal than soar above 200, higher is better.

Medication Changes:  Refused second breathing treatment at 1830. Said she didn't "feel" she needed it. I didn't argue with her. Her breathing seems to be okay, considering everything.
Dinner:  Repeat of yesterday except that we had pickled (without sugar) beets instead of broccoli. Also included same dessert.

Typical Breakfast:

I've decided to record what Mom's typical breakfast is, so that when I record changes in her breakfast there will be a context for them.

Typical Ham Breakfast (preferred):  1 boiled egg; 1 piece multi-grain toast (with seeds); about 1.5 tablespoons Fleishmann's margarine on toast; about 1/8 - 1/4 tsp Vietnamese Cinnamon (the kind that tastes like red hots) on toast; anywhere from 6-8 oz orange juice (depending on how low her blood glucose is) thinned with anywhere from 8-10 oz water; about 4-6 oz very lean Canada Ham, when available.

Typical Bacon Breakfast (when the above mentioned ham is not available):  1 boiled egg; 1 piece multi-grain toast (with seeds); about 1.5 tablespoons Fleishmann's margarine on toast; about 1/8 - 1/4 tsp Vietnamese Cinnamon (the kind that tastes like red hots) on toast; anywhere from 6-8 oz orange juice (depending on how low her blood glucose is) thinned with anywhere from 8-10 oz water; 2 - 3 pieces thick sliced, as lean as possible bacon, when Canada Ham, mentioned above, is not available.
