BM Stat Vacation:

We took a vacation from stats, today. I just wasn't into poking and strapping (the blood pressure cuff) and shoving and holding (the thermometer).
Bowel Movement:  Today's was clearly a follow-up to yesterday's and occurred during her bath. Fair volume; very good consistency; very easy elimination; very easy clean-up.
Dinner:  My enhanced Mac 'n Cheese; Pomegranate/Blueberry Sherbert for dessert.

Bowel Movement:  Occurred during bathing before Mom's breakfast. Very good volume; hard consistency; reportedly easy elimination but I wiped a bit of fresh blood from her anus; very easy clean-up.
Medication Changes:
  • 325 mg acetaminophen at breakfast because of slightly high temp and a bit more morning stiffness than usual.
  • 2 Tbl Phillip's Milk of Magnesia; although she had a bowel movement and reported it easy, the anal blood upon wiping and the hardness of her stool told me that she needs a little softening; and probably a little more cleaning out.
  • Discovered Saturday "morning" that I had forgotten to give Mom her 15 mg lisinopril. Since we took a Stat Vacation Saturday, I have no idea how this affected her but, as she would say, she "lived".
Dinner:  Taco Bell, her choice. She had a Burrito Supreme and a Crunchy Taco Supreme. No dessert, oddly, although I'm sure the carbs involved in Taco Bell food KO'd that possibility.

Full Stat Day:

A.M. Blood Glucose:
    Time:  0948
    Reading:  164
A.M. Blood Pressure:
    Time:  0950

    Reading:  161
P.M. Blood Pressure:
    Time:  1715
    BP:  124/63
    Pulse:  74

Medication Changes:
  • Gave her 2.5 mg Metaclopramide because she had complained of nausea, which had awakened her, along with a diffuse complaint of her stomach (lower abdomen) feeling "bad"; not exactly pain but pressure. Later, forgot that she'd been nauseated. Lower abdominal "pressure" disappeared after bathing and getting her out to the living room with the wheel chair.
  • Same thing happened in the evening when she awoke from her nap. Gave her prophylactic 2.5 mg Metaclopramide again before dinner.
  • Although, after looking up side effects of omeprazole and discovering that "constipation" and "abdominal pain" (which my mother probably interprets as "abdominal pressure" since she has a high pain tolerance) are not uncommon, I gave her about 2.5 Tbl Phillip's Milk of Magnesia, even though she doesn't seem to be constipated according to her bowel movement schedule. I thought, if there is a back-up, this would move things along. If there isn't, it wouldn't hurt her.
Miscellaneous Note:  She did eat some breakfast: A peppered boiled egg; two slices high fiber toast with Fleishmann's margarine and cinnamon; about 16 oz ginger tea. She also took all her meds. Frankly, I think the problem is the Prilosec. She's been on it for six days as of yesterday and has been burping a lot since the switch. I think it is not alleviating gas problems the way the Protonix was doing. I talked to the RN today about switching this med back not "non-Hospice meds" so that we can switch her back to the Protonix.
Dinner:  A hefty bowl of Safeway's "Chunky Chicken Noodle Soup" with lots of added chicken and Costco's grated Lemon/Garlic/Pepper Salt seasoning. 1 slice of Marie Callendar's lemon meringue pie.
