Medication Changes:
- Yeeks! You gotta guess that I gave Mom an extra glipizide this morning with breakfast to see if we couldn't work that high blood sugar down. It surprised me because I didn't think we had anything for dinner last night that could account for this. Thus, I think, for awhile, at least, I'll note each night what we had for dinner for my own information. Obviously, what we had last night really shot her blood sugar up.
- Also, in this category, with the Hospice nurse's concern about Mom's breathing rate in mind, I performed a little experiment during breakfast while she was seated, reading and eating. I observed her breathing rate at 3/lpm continuous flow oxygen and at 4/lpm. Although her breathing rate is still loads faster than mine, it was noticeably less at 4/lpm while sitting. So, I decided to boost her to 4/lpm sitting, 4-5/lpm moving and 4.5/lpm sleeping. The reason I'm not boosting her oxygen up to 5/lpm, yet, is because her nose bleeds easily and quickly when she's at this rate and, I think, the last thing she'd want me to do is bother her all night long in order to re-coat her cannula with KY. You know those razors they sell, now, that have a "moisturinzing strip" just above the blade? Wouldn't it be nice if they produced cannulae with removable nasal tubes and the tubes were produced coated with a KY type of solution that slowly melted and soothed while the person was using the cannula; then, when the nasal tubes were devoid of the gel, you simply replaced the tubes with freshly coated ones?
- Didn't manage to get in the third breathing treatment, which is all Albuterol. I couldn't convince her to stay up for the complete four hours in order to get it in.
